When an AI agent needs to update a customer record, check inventory or prepare a refund, the fastest setup is often the most dangerous: sign it in with an employee’s account and let it use whatever that person can use. This makes the agent difficult to distinguish from the employee, gives it permissions while idle, and leaves the company with an awkward question after an error: who—or what—actually performed the action? A safer pattern is an **agent badge**: a distinct agent identity plus a short-lived authorization for one defined task. The badge says which agent is acting, who initiated the work, which resources it may reach, which actions it may attempt and when its authority expires. It is not a copy of an employee’s password.
